Nancy Brier is a New York based choreographer, dance educator, filmmaker, Certified Movement Analyst and co-founder/artistic co-director of N/N Dance Collaborative.  Her concert works have been performed in NYC (Duke on 42nd St., Performance Space 122, Queens Theater and more), France, Czech Republic, Italy and on Metro Arts Thirteen/Metro Stories television networks.  She has been making dance films since 2014 (Official Selections 2022 Vienna International Film Awards and 2019 L.A., Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris film festivals and screened three films in the Fall 2021 curated virtual series, Take Root).

She was one of 13 choreographers awarded the 2022 New York State Choreographers' Initiative NYSCA grant administered by the NYS DanceForce and American Dance Asylum Inc., to experiment with the fusion of choreography and video projection crafted for live performance. Nancy was also recipient of a NYSCA Restart NY Regrant from the Huntington Arts Council to direct, choreograph and produce an immersive Summer Solstice 2002 Celebration of the Arts multidisciplinary event combining dance, live music, sculpture, poetry and film screenings.

Nancy was born and raised in Arizona and after receiving her B.F.A. in Dance from Arizona State University, she relocated  to New York City where she performed with modern, contemporary and dance theatre choreographers including Frank Ashley, Lenore Latimer and Barbara Jo Fleming's Commotion Dance Collaborative.  She received her Master's degree from New York University and is a Certified Movement Analyst in Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals and Motif Notation.  In the midst of 18  tours teaching and choreographing in France, the French Ministry of Culture and La Federation Française de Danse presented her with an honorary doctoral equivalent, Professeur Agrégé, recognizing her as one of the notable dance educators responsible for bringing contemporary American jazz and modern dance technique to France.

In June 2021, she and Nicole Speletic formed N/N Dance Collaborative, an artistic platform with the purpose of fostering innovative collaborations in live and filmed dance works, in new forms and for yet unexplored venues.  Since then, N/N's artistic co-directors have received a City Artist Corps grant from NYFA, a NYSCA Restart NY Regrant  and NYSCA's NYS Choreographers' Initiative grant.   N/N was selected  to have four dance films screened for five months in the curated Fall 2021 season Take Root produced by Green Space, performed three pieces at  2021-22 Queens Outdoor Dance Festivals and presented three other live contemporary dance works and four dance films at the 2022 Summer Solstice Celebration of the Arts.  In Fall 2022, N/N presented two dance films at the ESTIA Day Fest, then a dance-with-photography installation and  a live concert piece at the Fall 2022 Queens Outdoor Dance Festival.

Formerly Company Director of Circle of Dance Repertory Company (Huntington, NY), for seven of
her 15 year tenure with them as Resident Choreographer, she facilitated the company's growth into booking performances in New York City and international venues.  Nancy is also Co-Founder of Post Concert Dance Company, the resident company at LIU Post, and served as its Co-Director for over a decade.

Nancy's current area of interest is investigating the integration of both live and recorded video feeds in the creative process of dancemaking for the concert stage.  She also plans to continue  along her recent paths of creating work focusing on social/environmental/political themes and  collaborating with composers, filmmakers, designers and visual artists.
